The first reactions from Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse are in, and heap tons of praise on the animated superhero movie. Sony is in the midst of Venom’s shocking box office climb, but are also gearing up for their next Spider-Man related property to hit theaters. Based on the initial response, Spider-Verse is going to be a much more well-received film than the Tom Hardy solo flick.
Sony hasn’t had the easiest time creating a cinematic universe of their own, and decided to move to animation to open up the possibilities that Spider-Man has. The Phil Lord and Chris Miller concept brought Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) to the forefront of the story, while still including an older Peter Parker (Jake Johnson) as a mentor. They are far from the only characters set to appear in Spider-Verse, and it was recently revealed that this movie is just the beginning of Sony’s plans. They’re betting big on Spider-Verse, with a sequel and all-female spinoff already in the works. With reaction pouring in online, it is easy to see why they’re doing just that.
The social media embargo on Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse has officially lifted, and immediately flooded the internet with tons of praise for the upcoming movie. Official full reviews are still not yet permitted, but these reactions speak for themselves. Check out several glowing reactions from various critics, including Screen Rant’s own Molly Freeman.
Anticipation for Spider-Verse was already high just based on the marketing and killer animation, but it’s safe to say that these reactions are even more positive than anyone could’ve hoped for. These reactions are calling it not only one of 2018’s best films or arguably the best Spider-Man movie overall, but some are putting it in the conversation of best superhero movie ever.
The keys to Spider-Verse’s critical praise right now appear to be two-fold. For starters, the animation looks to have delivered on the big screen just as well as everyone wanted. The inclusion of comic book elements like splash pages or word bubbles are just a few of the genre specific parts Spider-Verse can do that no other superhero movie has even really attempted. Fitting perfectly with the gorgeous look sounds to be an excellent, fun tone to Miles’ adventure. This shouldn’t come as too big of a surprise based on the rather upbeat trailers, but it’s always nice to know that the movie itself actually delivers. As long as these reactions remain constant across all viewers as it appears to be right now, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse could be in great position to close out 2018 with one more giant animated and superhero hit.
