A possible crossover between Marvel’s Inhumans and Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. could be in the cards down the line, says Scott Buck, showrunner of the former. Marvel’s Royal family has officially made their entrance with the series finally debuting on IMAX screens with its theatrical release followed by its premiere on ABC later this month. Much has been said about the show’s filming aspect as it is the first live-action TV series to debut in IMAX and its transition from a film included in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s third phase to a TV offering. The show is kickstarted by a military coup that drives the famed family into exile in Hawaii where they would learn to coexist with human beings.

For the past four years, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has been doing a great job of referencing the events from MCU’s films while also exploring other narratives from the vast Marvel comics history.  The concept of Inhumans is not really an alien one to the show, since their existence was previously touched upon during the third season of the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. with the discovery of the Terrigen Crystals and Daisy’s (Chloe Bennett) transformation as an Inhuman. Further, Coulson’s (Clark Gregg) recent space trip could also be a doorway to plant crossover plot seeds that they can revisit at a later time.

Speaking with CBR while doing the promotional rounds for Inhumans, Buck floated the idea that much like all other existing pockets of storytelling in the MCU, there will be some sort of amalgamation between the latest addition to Marvel TV’s portfolio and their very first venture:

With Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D’s writing seemingly interested in tying things more cohesively together, it will not be that difficult to pull off a crossover. Unfortunately, the poor reviews that Inhumans is currently getting could foil this plan altogether, as the show might not even have the opportunity to move forward past its first season if it does not get enough love from critics and the general viewing public - not to mention, if Inhumans doesn’t perform well at the box office.

“Sure, some time in the future, there may be some sort of [crossover] — as it is right now, we stand completely alone and separate from the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., but who knows what the future might bring?”

The first two episodes of Inhumans will run on IMAX for two weeks, followed by the rest of the series on ABC, giving fans an early tease of what they can expect from Marvel TV’s latest offering. This leaves the door open for the show to redeem itself for eight more outings before everyone makes their final judgment on Marvel’s very expensive television venture.
