The latest promo for Inhumans finally teases the process of Terrigenesis in the upcoming Marvel television series. Unlike the mutants, who typically uncover their abilities during puberty, the Inhumans have almost always needed Terrigen Mists to transform them. Hidden in their DNA is the potential for change, but the Mists and the Terrigen Crystals that create them are what allow Inhumans to truly unlock their potential.

As marketing for Inhumans has continued, we’ve seen a number of looks into the society surrounding the Royal Family in their home of Attilan. We’ve been given glimpses of the powers of each of the main characters, and also teased about what their roles will be in the story. Mixing political intrigue with superheroics, Inhumans will attempt to shine a light on a new corner of the MCU. Of course, the Inhumans and Terrigenesis have both factored heavily into Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. over the past few years. And while that show offered us one take on the sacred process, Inhumans will offer the definitive version of the ritual.

Marvel has unveiled a new promo for Inhumans ahead of its release this week. While it mostly re-edits footage we saw in a trailer two days ago, there are a few brief scenes that provide our first look at the show’s version of Terrigenesis.

While S.H.I.E.L.D. offered one example of a ritual-esque process of transformation, the offshoots of the Inhuman Royal Family in the show had their own way of doing things. This new process will be the definitive one in the MCU, taking place on Attilan under the eye of the Royal Family. We can see a chest full of Terrigen Crystals, followed by two hooded figures each having one of the rare items placed on their forehead. Likely, this is simply part of the ritual, as the actually process of Terrigenesis then occurs within containment chambers. We can see two young Inhumans looking very apprehensive as the Mists surround them, and the bug-eyed and butterfly-winger Inhumans seen in the trailer are likely them post-transformation.

In many versions of the comics and on S.H.I.E.L.D., the act of undergoing Terrigenesis is a selective one. While many Inhumans live among their people, only a chosen few are allowed to go through the ritual. Chances are, this will be the case for Inhumans, so the two young characters are likely special in some way. With Inhumans coming to IMAX theaters for early screenings, fans won’t have to wait much longer to learn more.
