A Marvel TV crossover event between Inhumans and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. could well be possible, according to Auran actress Sonya Balmores. The premiere of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 5 was pushed back to make space on ABC’s slate for Inhumans. The new series ended up receiving similar ratings to the spy staple, upon its broadcast debut.

Both shows could benefit from the boost in interest that a crossover would generate. Inhumans’ first two episodes received a critical drubbing, and it was recently revealed that ABC didn’t even want to renew Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. for its fifth season – the order to keep the show alive came down from Disney, the owners of the network, who had more faith in S.H.I.E.L.D. than ABC’s execs.

The CW’s interconnected DC shows Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow have proved time and again that a crossover event can help lure in more viewers, and ABC/Marvel/Disney would do well to heed that example. Balmores - who plays Auran, a ruthless killer loyal to Maximus, in Inhumans – seems to think that a crossover with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is well with the realms of possibility. Here’s what she said to Comic Book on the matter:

This is the second time that the term ‘NuHumans’ has cropped up. It refers to the new generation of Inhuman individuals – seen in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. - who have undergone Terrigenesis and gained special abilities. Chloe Bennet’s Daisy Johnson, with her Quake powers, is the prime example, but the show has featured many other ‘NuHumans’.

“I don’t know anything about that but, I mean, Agents of SHIELD is gonna be right after us, so yeah. We’ve got Inhumans, they’ve got NuHumans, I don’t see that not being a possibility.”

The Inhumans series, on the other hand, focuses on The Inhuman Royal Family, another sect of powered Inhuman individuals, who live on the Moon (at the start of their series, at least). Inhumans and NuHumans share the same heritage – ancient Kree experiments on human beings resulted in the Terrigenesis process being invented, thus birthing the Inhuman race – so why shouldn’t they have a crossover? Daisy meeting some distant Inhuman relatives could provide a strong emotional core to such a story.

However, as much Balmores and her showrunner Scott Buck are open to the idea, the decision on whether or not to connect these shows explicitly will surely be made by the higher-ups at Disney, ABC and Marvel. Many already believe that Inhumans will be canceled after one season, which begs the question: would the powers-that-be want to tie the sinking Inhumans ship to any of their properties? It doesn’t sound likely. But, of course, only time will tell whether this crossover comes to pass.
