Marvel Studios has officially confirmed the special features viewers can expect with the digital and home releases of Avengers: Infinity War. Marvel recently confirmed the the film’s digital release date of July 31 and Blu-ray release on August 14, and now viewers finally know what to expect.
In a smart approach to marketing, Marvel announced the release dates via Chadwick Boseman, who posted them on Twitter - along with a one-minute trailer. These are busy times for Marvel, with Avengers: Infinity War’s digital and home releases actually happening after the next Marvel movie, Ant-Man & the Wasp, is out at theaters.
Now, though, Marvel has finally confirmed all the special features viewers can expect on the Blu-ray for Avengers: Infinity War. They include a whole host of deleted scenes, commentaries, and behind-the-scenes featurettes. Keep an eye out for retailer exclusives, though, as Marvel do caution that the bonus features may vary by retailer.
Deleted and Extended Scenes
Avengers: Infinity War will feature 10:07 of deleted and extended scenes. According to Marvel, the deleted scenes are:
- Happy Knows Best (1:23) – Tony and Pepper spar over the details of their upcoming wedding—until a hassled Happy Hogan pulls up with an urgent request. Hunt for the Mind Stone (1:24) – On a darkened street, Wanda Maximoff and the wounded Vision attempt to hide from Thanos’ brutal allies. The Guardians Get Their Groove Back (3:20) – As Peter Quill and Drax quarrel over their failed mission to Knowhere, Mantis interrupts with news. A Father’s Choice (4:00) – Thanos confronts Gamora with a vision from her past—and with lying to him about the Soul Stone.
Some of these deleted scenes are far from surprising; set photos had clearly shown that Jon Favreau was on set during shooting of early scenes in Avengers: Infinity War, but was cut from the theatrical release. Favreau is expecting to turn up in Avengers 4, though. Meanwhile, the Russos have discussed “The Guardians Get Their Groove Back” at length, with Joe Russo describing it as “straight-up comedic.”
Featurettes
The Blu-ray and digital releases also include an exciting range of featurettes:
- Strange Alchemy (5:08)– Share the thrill of characters from across the MCU meeting for the first time—and discover why some were teamed up together. The Mad Titan (6:34) – Explore the MCU’s biggest, baddest villain, his trail of influence through the stories, and the existential threat he represents. Beyond the Battle: Titan (9:36) – Dive into the climactic struggle on Thanos’ ruined world, including the epic stunts and VFX, to uncover the source of its power. Beyond the Battle: Wakanda (10:58) – Go behind the scenes to find out how the filmmakers pulled off the most massive and challenging battle Marvel had ever attempted.
In addition, there’ll be a 2:05 gag reel and a 149-minute directors’ commentary by Joe and Anthony Russo, Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. Digital purchases will be accompanied by an exclusive 32-minute Directors’ Roundtable, in which eight of Marvel’s top directors reflect on how their movies contribute to the MCU’s wider narrative.
