Not too long ago, Motorola announced a series of new devices, including the Moto X Play. Unfortunately for those in the U.S., that particular handset didn’t seemed destined to arrive there. The reason behind that decision could have already been solved, though, with rumors circulating that the incoming DROID MAXX 2 from Verizon Wireless would actually be a rebranded Moto X Play. And, sure enough, it’s looking more and more like that’s the case. Based on recent images that have surfaced, the upcoming DROID MAXX successor looks exactly like the Moto X Play, and shares plenty of specification similarities, too. That includes a 5.46-inch 1080p HD display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor with 2GB of RAM under the hood, a 21-megapixel camera on the back, and a battery that’s measured in at 3630mAh. The images also show apps for Verizon’s Voicemail and Messages, so if there’s any doubt this is heading to Verizon Wireless, those apps, and the branding on the back, should deal with that pretty quickly.
While some may have wanted the Moto X Play proper to be available to purchase unlocked from Motorola’s online store at some point, it looks like Verizon’s and Motorola’s relationship means it’ll be available as a Verizon exclusive at some point in the near future.
